Yuffie Kisaragi (FF7 - Dirge of Cerberus)
The Source
This was the dawn of the era of FFVII spinoffs, which meant a new Yuffie outfit dropped that ALSO didn’t have obscure knit requirements. Hurray!
The Costume (2006)
This was a very ambitious costume for someone who had just gotten their own sewing machine. Way too much of this was cotton solids, the shirt and the armwarmers especially would have benefitted from being a knit since the long one liked to pinch my elbow a bit if I laced it too tightly.
I was at least able to get some brown vinyl for the tiny shoulder straps. I think this was my first costume that involved trying to sewing machine vinyl? First time topstitching it, at least. I wound up using cellotape to get it through my sewing machine. Sewing all the little tabs onto the belt was a time-consuming PITA and the arm eyelets took a long time as well.
I learned the night before the convention that hot glue will NOT attach velcro to vinyl. :) The way I did the bootcovers wasn’t great, I think they’re my least favorite aspect. The shorts don’t fit especially well either and are just some horrible orange cotton of terrible quality. The pouch doo-dads spent half of their life in the wrong (flipped around) position. As per usual for Ohayocon: not a great outfit to be wearing in January in the midwest.
The nice thing about cosplaying something like FF is that there are always many, many other cosplayers to riff off of. There was a Cid at local Ohio conventions who always had some materia for me to “steal.” :)
