In the point and shoot era, I relied upon my trusty 6MP Sony DSC-W50...but I always dreamed of a DSLR. I eventually saved up enough for a Nikon D3100 + a single prime lens (the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G). After graduating university, I jumped from my (now ten year old) bottom of the barrel cropped sensor DSLR straight to a mirrorless fullframe Nikon Z6II.

Over the years, smart phones steadily came down in price, transitioning from a frivolous luxury to an ever more reasonably priced necessity. I have stuck with Google's line of smartphones purely for their photography capabilities, starting with a Nexus 5, continuing with a Pixel 3 XL (which Google evilly bricked with a buggy update), and currently a Pixel 4a 5G.
