Yuffie Kisaragi (FF7 - Dirge of Cerberus)
The Source
This was the dawn of the era of FFVII spinoffs, which meant a new Yuffie outfit dropped…and it didn’t have obscure knit requirements. Hurray!
The Costume (2006)
This was a very ambitious costume for someone who had just gotten their own sewing machine. This was made almost entirely from cotton quilting solids. The shirt and the armwarmers especially would have benefitted from being a knit, since the long one liked to pinch my elbow if I laced it too tightly. I was at least able to get some brown vinyl for the tiny shoulder straps and some rather questionable vinyl that was a reasonable approximation of the boots for the boot covers (which were definitely the worst part of this costume). This was my first time trying to sew machine vinyl and I wound up using cellotape to get it through my sewing machine. Sewing all the little tabs onto the belt was a time-consuming PITA and the arm eyelets took a long time as well.
I learned the night before the convention that hot glue will NOT attach velcro to vinyl. :) And as is so often the case with Ohayocon: not a great outfit to be wearing in January in the midwest.
The nice thing about cosplaying from something as hyper popular as Final Fantasy was that there were always many other cosplayers from it running around. There was a Cid at local Ohio conventions who always had some materia for me to “steal.” :)
