“Out of the forest at last there stood the mountain, wholly unveiled, awful in bulk and majesty, filling all the view like a separate, newborn world, yet withal so fine and so beautiful it might well fire the dullest observer to desperate enthusiasm.”

I took a college buddy of mine hiking here as part of a week long expedition through my local National Parks. The lighting at this time of day was suboptimal for photography, but I brought my camera anyway. ;)

Sunrise is the highest place in the park accessible by car. The road to it is typically open only from July through September since it tends to be snowed under most of the year. Located on the relatively drier leeward side of the mountain, Sunrise is (somewhat) less overrun with Instagrammites than Paradise as it caters more to the day hiker than the selfie-in-meadow-enjoyer. People often compare the scenery here to “like something from outer space.” Some of the shots I got strongly remind me of Mann’s planet.
